The quirky horse made history earlier this year when he doubled up in the Dubai World Cup, and Godolphin’s Thunder Snow is far from finished with his racing career. According to attheraces.com, the 5-year-old son of Helmet could next start in the Grade 1 Met Mile at Belmont Park.
“Thunder Snow is doing good and worked nicely on Thursday,” said trainer Saeed bin Suroor. “I don’t think I will be going to Ascot – America is more likely. He needs to do another two pieces of work before we make a decision. There is a Grade One at Belmont Park over a mile for him on June 8.
“I’ve talked to Christophe (Soumillon) and Kieren Fallon, who rides him every morning, and we think maybe a mile is better to start him back over. The Breeders’ Cup is on the agenda and maybe we might take him to the Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park.”
Thunder Snow was second in the 2018 Jockey Club Gold Cup, and finsihed third in last fall’s Breeders’ Cup Classic at Churchill Downs; bin Suroor has been targeting a return to the World Championships ever since. This year’s edition will be held at Santa Anita Park in Southern California.
