‘Mechanically Efficient’ 3-Year-Old No Parole Has Amoss Considering Derby Preps

No Parole has twice dominated his competition by double-digit lengths at the Fair Grounds, and trainer Tom Amoss can’t help but to think that the 3-year-old son of Violence deserves a shot in a Kentucky Derby prep. He told Horse Racing Nation that while the colt’s pedigree doesn’t necessarily suggest that he’ll appreciate extra distance, a two-turn race is worth trying.

“He’s a deceptive horse because he’s so gifted athletically,” Amoss explained to horseracingnation.com. “He has the ability to float across the ground. If you watch his races, you can see it. That’s one good-looking stride he has. If you’re that mechanically efficient, and he is — I don’t want to sound technical. It’s a pretty thing to see.”

Owned by Maggi Moss, the Louisiana-bred colt was a $75,000 yearling purchase at the Keeneland September sale. No Parole won his Dec. 15 debut over state-bred company by 14 1/4 lengths, clocking six furlongs over the fast Fair Grounds dirt in 1:10.24. In his second start on Jan. 11 at the Fair Grounds, the colt repeated his front-running tour de force with a 13 1/4-length victory in a state-bred allowance race. No Parole clocked the same time for six furlongs over a muddy, sealed main track in his second start.

Amoss hasn’t yet selected a specific target for No Parole’s open-company debut.
