Luzzi ‘Wanting To Try Something Different’, Moving Tack To Oaklawn Park

Journeyman rider Mike Luzzi, who has been a fixture on the New York circuit for over 20 years, is moving his tack to Oaklawn Park this winter.

The Daily Racing Form reports that Luzzi, 48, will begin the drive from his home on Long Island to Oaklawn on Thursday. Luzzi plans to work horses this weekend in Hot Springs.

Luzzi told the Form that said a lack of business in New York and the fact that his children are older led him to the decision to try somewhere new. Mike’s son, Lane, will be riding at Sam Houston this winter.

Luzzi will be represented by agent Gene Short at Oaklawn. Luzzi told the DRF that the change “has been in the works for a little while. I’ve been wanting to try something different, the timing was never right.”
