Louisiana: Purse Subsidy Bill Withdrawn In Legislature

A proposed bill that would have removed $36 million from purse subsidies and redirected it to a scholarship program has been withdrawn in the Louisiana legislature.

The Daily Racing Form reports that on Monday, Rep. Jay Morris voluntarily pulled the bill from consideration after the House Appropriations Committee raised objections to the legislation.

According to the Form, Morris said that he may introduce legislation that would call for a study of the potential economic impact of the bill.
