Live Racing In Ohio Cleared To Resume On May 22; OSRC Releases Official Protocols

The Ohio State Racing Commission adopted Resolution 2020-11A on Thursday, which will allow Belterra Park and Thistledown to re-open and resume live racing later this month. According to the resolution, both tracks are to open their facilities on May 16 for training, and spectatorless racing may resume on May 22.

Harness tracks Scioto Downs and Northfield Park are subject to the same dates, per the resolution.

The resolution is accompanied by a five-page document detailing the “Protocols for a Safe Return to Racing Without Spectators.” Highlights include mandating the wearing of face coverings, daily health screenings for all employees, and that no owners or guests will be allowed access to the backstretch or the front side.
