Littleprincessemma, Dam Of American Pharoah, Has Tapit Filly

Littleprincessemma, the 2015 Broodmare of the Year and dam of Triple Crown winner American Pharoah, produced a filly by leading sire Tapit late Sunday night at Summer Wind Farm in Georgetown, Ky., per the farm’s social media channels.

The filly is the result of the fourth mating between Tapit and Littleprincessemma over the past five years. The first produced Grade 1 winner Chasing Yesterday in 2016, who is herself now a member of the Summer Wind broodmare band. After having a Pioneerof the Nile colt named Theprinceofthebes in 2017, Littleprincessemma returned to Tapit to have colt Triple Tap in 2018, filly Lasting Tribute in 2019, and the filly born this year.

Littleprincessemma, by Yankee Gentleman, was purchased by Jane Lyon’s Summer Wind Farm for $2.1 million at the 2014 Fasig-Tipton November mixed sale after American Pharoah completed his multiple Grade 1-winning juvenile season, but before securing the Eclipse Award as champion 2-year-old male and well before the dream season that would produce the first Triple Crown winner in decades.

Prior to that transaction, Littleprincessemma was owned by Zayat Stables, which bought her as a yearling for $250,000, and raced her twice, finishing out of the money in both starts. American Pharoah, a son of the late Pioneerof the Nile, was the second foal out of the mare, following the Maimonides colt Xixixi. American Pharoah now stands at Ashford Stud in Versailles, Ky., while Xixixi stands in Pennsylvania.

Littleprincessemma visited Pioneerof the Nile three more times after having American Pharoah. The first of those matings produced Grade 1-placed American Cleopatra for Zayat Stables. After selling to Summer Wind Farm, the mare had Irish stakes winner and current Florida stallion St. Patrick’s Day and the aforementioned Theprinceofthebes.

Tapit, a 19-year-old son of Pulpit, stands at Gainesway in Lexington, Ky., for an advertised fee of $200,000.

The dominant commercial sire of the past decade, Tapit’s notable runners include champions Untapable, Stardom Bound, Hansen, and Unique Bella, Belmont Stakes winners Tonalist, Creator, and Tapwrit, and Grade 1 winners including Frosted, Constitution, Cupid, Ring Weekend, Tapizar, and Careless Jewel.
