Laurel’s Rainbow 6 Pays Out $26,786 Saturday To Maine Bettor

One lucky bettor was the winner of a total jackpot carryover payout of $26,786.44 in Saturday’s 20-cent Rainbow 6 wager at Laurel Park.

The winning ticket of 1,2,9,10,13/1,3,7/5,6,7,9,10,13,14/1,2,3,4/2,3,4,5,6,7/3,4,8,9,10 cost $2,520 and was purchased through the Lewiston, Maine hub.

Reign Supreme ($15.20) captured the 11th-race finale Saturday to complete the winning 13-3-14-1-3-4 combination. Other winners in the sequence were Grandpa’s Arianna ($5) in the sixth, Value Added ($3.20) in the seventh, Dangerous Woman ($15) in the eighth, Senora de Lujan ($14.20) in the ninth and Carteret ($69.40) in the 10th.

A veterinary scratch of Grand Lassie prior to Race 7 meant all wagers on the 5-year-old mare were transferred to the post-time favorite, Value Added, who was an easy three-length winner of the seven-furlong claiming event.

The result initially led tote operators to determine following the 11th race that there were two winning tickets in the Rainbow 6, one on Value Added and a second from a ticket that had scratched into the winner, resulting in an announced carryover of $22,259 for Sunday’s card.

Further investigation after the conclusion of racing determined there was, in fact, a lone single winning ticket with two combinations due to the late scratch of Grand Lassie, resulting in individual payouts of $13,393.22.

The Rainbow 6 jackpot is paid out only when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 60 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 40 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

The Rainbow 6 began anew Sunday starting in Race 4, a 1 1/16-mile starter allowance on the grass for 3-year-olds and up. In all, four of the six races are slotted for Laurel’s world-class turf course, drawing a total of 45 horses, an average of 11.25 starters per race.
