Laurel Park’s Rainbow 6 Carryover Of $254,426 Nears State Record

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 went unsolved for the 27th consecutive live program Saturday at Laurel Park, building the jackpot carryover to $254,426.59 for Sunday’s nine-race card.

According to Maryland Jockey Club officials, the record for the state’s largest carryover is $275,322, reached heading into closing day of Pimlico Race Course’s spring meet on June 6, 2015. A mandatory payout that day produced multiple returns of $12,518.28.

The Rainbow 6 was introduced in Maryland on April 2, 2015, initially as a 10-cent wager, on opening day of Pimlico’s spring meet.

A total of $65,011 was wagered into the Rainbow 6 Saturday, adding to a carryover of $233,622.91 from Friday, April 6. Multiple tickets were sold with all six winners, each worth $635.28.

The carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 60 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 40 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

Sunday’s Rainbow 6 covers Races 4-9. First race post time is 1:10 p.m.
