KY Oaks Winner Cathryn Sophia Brings $2.3M On Day 1 Of The Keeneland November Sale

Keeneland has cataloged 4,147 horses for its 2017 November Breeding Stock Sale, the world’s largest and most important sale of its kind, to be held Nov. 7-18.

One of the headliners of the catalog is champion Stellar Wind, while other offerings include the first weanlings to represent Triple Crown winner American Pharoah, the first mares in foal to two-time Horse of the Year California Chrome and a selection of horses of racing age.

The first session got underway Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. Hip nos. 1 – 179 are scheduled to go through the ring.

Things got off to a fast start with Hip No. 1, Weekend Whim, an 11-year-old chestnut mare by Distorted Humor x Weekend in Indy (A.P. Indy), i/f to Medaglia d’Oro. The mare, who is carrying a full-sibling to G1 winner New Money Honey, was purchased by Summer Wind Farm for $1,400,000.

A short time later 2016 Kentucky Oaks winner, Cathryn Sophia (Hip 30), brought $2,300,000 from Bridlewood Farm. Cathryn Sophia (Street Boss x Sheave, by Mineshaft) is carrying her first foal by Pioneerof the Nile.
