Keeneland Seeks To Fill More Than 2,000 Seasonal Jobs For Spring Meet

Keeneland is readying for its 2019 Spring Meet with today’s announcement of two employment events aimed at filling more than 2,000 seasonal positions: a Hiring Center that opens Feb. 25 and a Job Fair on March 9. Staffing covers Food and Beverage Service, Parking and Security, The Keeneland Shop, Admissions, Programs, Track Maintenance and Guest Services for the Spring Meet, which covers 17 days of racing from April 4-26, and Keeneland’s annual Kentucky Oaks (G1) and Kentucky Derby (G1) celebrations on May 3-4.

“Keeneland offers seasonal staff the opportunity to work with a talented group of professionals, hone your own individual skill set and be part of a uniquely Kentucky tradition,” Keeneland President and Chief Executive Officer Bill Thomason said. “Our seasonal workforce is such an important part of the Keeneland team, and the personal stories they often share with us reflect how special Keeneland is to them from the woman who used her seasonal earnings to pay her granddaughter’s college tuition to the gentleman from Guest Services who was buried in the Green Coat he wore for that position. These folks become family that we welcome back year after year.”

Keeneland attracts seasonal employees from across the U.S. and throughout Kentucky. Last spring, Keeneland staff represented 22 states as far away as Arizona. Those from Kentucky resided in 95 cities in 55 counties.

Positions and Benefits
Keeneland offers seasonal employment in a variety of areas for the spring. Keeneland Hospitality, which provides food and beverage service for the entire Keeneland campus, including the Clubhouse, Grandstand, concessions and Track Kitchen, is seeking candidates with experience in the restaurant industry, such as sous chefs and servers, as well as staff to fill entry-level roles such as concession employees and dishwashers.

An advantage for seasonal staff working with Keeneland Hospitality is the opportunity to gain valuable culinary and dining experience while training directly under Executive Chef Marc Therrien.

Additionally, seasonal jobs are available in Parking and Security, The Keeneland Shop, Admissions, Programs, Track Maintenance and Guest Services.

Keeneland also is seeking applicants with knowledge of handicapping to become BETologists and advance its fan education efforts.

Team members who work the entire Spring Meet average 40 paid hours each week and receive paid training prior to the start of the race meet. Seasonal employees are paid on a weekly basis and receive 50 percent off meals in Grandstand concessions and a 30-percent discount on merchandise at The Keeneland Shop.
