Jockey Robby Albarado Suffers Fractured Wrist In Churchill Spill

According to the Daily Racing Form‘s Marty McGee on Twitter, jockey Robby Albarado suffered a fractured left wrist during an incident on Sunday at Churchill Downs.

During the second race, Albarado was riding 2-year-old first-time starter Dennis’ Moment for trainer Dale Romans. The colt appeared to either stumble or clip heels with a drifting rival near the half-mile pole, and Albarado was sent over his head and into the ground. Luckily, trailing horses were able to avoid the downed rider and he was quickly back on his feet.

Jockey agent Jake Romans reported the wrist fracture, though it is unclear how long Albarado will be on the sidelines.

Dennis’ Moment appeared to escape the incident unscathed, continuing on around the far turn without his rider and racing up the stretch to hit the wire just in front of the race winner, Long Weekend.

From agent Jake Romans, veteran jockey Robby Albarado has been diagnosed with a fractured left wrist as a result of being thrown from his mount in the 2nd race today at #ChurchillDowns. Down time tba. Tough break yet again for one of the Midwest’s most accomplished riders.
