Jockey Leonel Reyes To Miss Up To Two Months With Broken Arm, Chin

Leonel Reyes, leading the Gulfstream Park West riding colony with 22 wins, will miss 6-to-8 weeks after suffering a broken arm and chin in Friday’s seventh race.

Reyes was unseated when the 3-year-old filly Blue Eyed Beth hit the rail in Friday’s seventh race. The filly was uninjured, but Reyes underwent surgery on his chin Saturday and was undergoing surgery on his arm Sunday.

“He is doing better,” said agent Jose Sanchez. “Sometimes these crazy things happen. He will probably be out between 6-to-8 weeks. We’re hoping for six but we’re prepared for eight.”

Reyes, who finished in the top 10 in wins and money won during the Gulfstream summer meet, won the 2019 Hutcheson Stakes (G3) aboard Gladiator King.
