Jockey Donnacha O’Brien Plans To ‘Concentrate On Training’ In 2020

The youngest son of Ballydoyle master Aidan O’Brien, 21-year-old jockey Donnacha O’Brien has decided to follow his older brother Joseph O’Brien in the family legacy. He posted the decision on Twitter this Sunday.

“After thinking about things for a while I have decided to concentrate on training next year,” he wrote. “Riding has been very good to me and I owe everything to the people around me. I want to give special thanks to the Magnier, Smith and Tabor families along with my own families for all their support. I look forward to training a small group of horses next year and will hopefully build from there. #Nextchapter”

Donnacha O’Brien has won a pair of Flat Jockeys’ championship titles, including this season. The ten-time Group 1 winner already has a yard set up in Longfield, County Tipperary, according to racingpost.com. One of his earliest charges will be the undefeated 2-year-old filly Fancy Blue, a Coolmore-owned daughter of Deep Impact previously trained by his father.
