Jackpot Edges Up To $676,929 In Gulfstream Park’s Rainbow 6

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 carryover jackpot at Gulfstream Park went unsolved for the 23rd consecutive racing program Thursday, producing a carryover jackpot of $676,928.67 for Friday’s 2:15 p.m. ET twilight card.

Multiple tickets with six winners Thursday were each worth $3,939.24.

The carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

Gaffalione Displays ‘Inherent’ Talent on Pletcher Trainee
Todd Pletcher-trained Inherent ($13) was the beneficiary of an aggressive ride by Tyler Gaffalione at Gulfstream in Thursday’s second race, eking out a hard-fought victory in the seven-furlong maiden special weight race for 3-year-olds.

Calumet Farm’s homebred son of Oxbow, who rated off the pace after breaking from his rail post position, responded to Gaffalione’s strong handling around the turn and through the stretch to out-game Deputy Czar nearing the wire to prevail by a head.

Inherent, who hadn’t seen action since finishing sixth in his career debut at Gulfstream nearly a year ago, ran seven furlongs in 1:23.98 in the well-stocked maiden test, in which the Pletcher-trained Mantel finished fifth as the 2-1 favorite after contesting the early pace. River Front, a son of War Front and 2011 Horse of the Year Havre de Grace, finished sixth after breaking slowly and racing rank early.

Gaffalione also scored aboard R Happy Ending ($3.20) in the ninth race to extend his win lead over an idle Edgard Zayas to 58-55 Thursday. Gulfstream Park’s Spring Meet concludes with the June 30 Summit of Speed program.
