‘It Just Takes Time’: Taylor Made Sales Agency Dips Toe In French Marketplace At Arqana Yearling Sale

Taylor Made Sales Agency is a perennial leading consignor during the yearling and mixed sale seasons in North America, but the organization has been expanding its reach internationally in recent years.

The latest global step for the Nicholasville, Ky.,-based operation comes this weekend when Taylor Made will consign an inaugural four-horse draft at the Arqana August Yearling Sale in Deauville, France, Racing Post reports.

Taylor Made will offer the young horses in partnership with French-based Haras de Gouffern and de la Genevraye.

Duncan Taylor, president of Taylor Made Farm, traveled to France for the sale. He told the Racing Post that generating North American interest in selling abroad has been a trying process – both in trying to find pinhook prospects at the right price and convincing clients to test selling in the European market – but it’s one he’s willing to keep working toward.

“It just takes time,” Taylor told the Racing Post. “I was looking back, trying not to be too discouraged, at our first consignments with Taylor Made back in 1978 and we had a bunch of $8,000 and $10,000 horses. It was hard at first convincing people to sell with us in America, so we know that you’ve just got to work hard and keep your nose to the grindstone and show opportunity.”

Followers of American bloodlines will recognize Taylor Made’s Giant’s Causeway colt in the catalog. However, the remaining three offerings feature European pages: a Gutaifan colt, an Iffraaj colt, and a colt by The Gurkha.

The Arqana August Yearling Sale takes place Aug. 17-19.
