Two-time champion jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. plans to return to the saddle this Saturday at Gulfstream Park, reports drf.com.
On March 19, Ortiz announced via Twitter that he would step away from racing due to the coronavirus pandemic, citing family concerns.
“After a lot of consideration, I have decided to stop riding,” he wrote. “This is the safest decision for my family and myself. Hopefully we can all make it safely out of this quarantine sooner than later and get back to what we all love.”
Agent Steve Rushing indicated that Ortiz will ride regularly at Gulfstream until racing resumes in New York.
