Into Mischief Colt, Street Sense Filly Lead Day 2 Of The Keeneland September Yearling Sale

Hip 342 commanded a final bid of $750,000 to be the co-session leader on Tuesday at the Keeneland September Yearling sale. The colt by Into Mischief out of Indian Rush, by Indian Charlie, was purchased by Shadwell Farm from consignor Paramount Sales.

Also bringing $750,000 in the ring was Hip 359, a filly by Street Sense out of Ithinkisawapudycat, by Bluegrass Cat. A half-sister to Grade 1 winning juvenile Sweet Loretta, the filly was purchased by Bridlewood Farm. She was consigned by Ashview Farm.

A colt from the second crop of Violence sold for $725,000 to Oussama Aboughazale. Out of the winning mare Holiday Bertie, by Harlan’s Holiday, the colt was consigned by Warrendale Sales.

Hip nos. 167 – 511 were scheduled to go through the sales ring during the second session, the first of three days of Book 2.

Opening night of the September Sale saw eight horses bring $1 million or more, with War Front and Tapit accounting for all but one of those seven-figure yearlings.

Keeneland changed the format of the early part of the sale this year as compared to 2016, when Book 1 was larger and held over multiple sessions. Gross receipts for this year’s one-session Book 1 finished at $54,175,000 with an average of $570,263 for the 95 head sold. The median finished at $500,000. Comparing opening sessions from 2016 and 2017, gross sales were up 57 percent, average 78 percent and median 86 percent. In 2016, the opening session saw 108 yearlings sell for $34,531,000, an average of $319,731 and median of $267,500.

Leading the action was a $2.7 million Tapit filly purchased by Coolmore‘s M.V. Magnier to be the most expensive yearling sold at public auction in North America this year and the highest-priced filly sold at the September Sale since 2008.
