Independence Hall To Target Florida Derby After Saturday Breeze

Talented sophomore colt Independence Hall will target the G1 Florida Derby after a “strong” breeze on Saturday at Tampa Bay Downs, co-owner Eclipse Thoroughbreds announced on Twitter. The son of Constitution worked five furlongs in 1:01 flat, his second breeze since finishing second in the G3 Sam F. Davis Stakes earlier this month.

A winner in his first three career starts, including the G2 Nashua and listed Jerome Stakes, Independence Hall is trained by Mike Trombetta. His regular rider is the recently injured Jose Ortiz.

Independence Hall will likely face early Kentucky Derby favorite Tiz the Law in the Florida Derby, which offers 100 points toward the first Saturday in May to the winner.
