In The Stud Presented By Kentucky Equine Research: Classic Empire, First Crop Weanlings Of 2019

The Paulick Report is pleased to bring back its In The Stud video series, focusing on the up-and-coming names on the North American stallion roster.

The series, put together by our friends at EquiSport Photos, will feature stallions whose first foals are weanlings of 2019. Paulick Report bloodstock editor Joe Nevills interviews farm staff about the stallion’s appealing qualities and what mares might work best with him, while giving viewers and potential breeders a chance to see the stallion on the walk and on the racetrack.

This week’s spotlight stallion is Classic Empire, a 5-year-old son of Pioneerof the Nile who stands at Ashford Stud.

Classic Empire earned the Eclipse Award for champion 2-year-old male of 2016 on the strength of a campaign that featured wins in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Santa Anita Park, the Grade 1 Breeders’ Futurity and the G3 Bashford Manor Stakes.

At three, Classic Empire once again put himself at the forefront of his class with a win in the G1 Arkansas Derby and a close second in the Preakness Stakes. He retired with nine wins in five starts for earnings of $2,520,220.

Classic Empire is out of the placed Cat Thief mare Sambuca Classica, making a half-brother to stakes winners Anytime Magic and Uptown Twirl.

In this edition of In The Stud, Nevills speaks to Ashford Stud’s Adrian Wallace about what Classic Empire can do to help move a mare up physically, and the race that best defines what the stallion is all about.

We hope you enjoy this feature, and we would once again like to thank our friends at EquiSport Photos.
