‘I Think We’ll Be Back’: Del Mar Likely To Pursue Hosting Breeders’ Cup In Future

Del Mar hosted the Breeders’ Cup for the first time over the weekend, and based on how smoothly things went and how successful it was, track officials are keen to be considered as a host site in the future.

“I think we’ll be back,” Del Mar’s track president Joe Harper told the Daily Racing Form. “It’s up to the Breeders’ Cup.

“The Breeders’ Cup people – the ones I talked to – were happy. I think we’ll be looked at in a different light.”

The Breeders’ Cup will return to Churchill Downs in 2018, the ninth time the event will be held in Louisville – but it will be the first time since 2011. Host sites for 2019 and beyond have not yet been announced.
