Hong Kong Jockey Nash Rawiller Banned 15 Months For Betting, Taking Gifts For Tips

Hong Kong rider Nash Rawiller has been suspended 15 months for betting on two of his mounts and for accepting gifts or other considerations for providing tips to others for betting purposes.

Rawiller, a former jockey in Australia, did not plead to the charges but cooperated with the investigation and testified to the allegations. He was given 15 months for each offense, to be served concurrently.

Kim Kelly, Hong Kong’s chief stipendiary steward, said “there was no evidence before the Stewards that N Rawiller had ridden any horse in Hong Kong with the intention other than to obtain the best possible placing for the horse. Further, the evidence before the Stewards was that N Rawiller had only tipped horses ridden by him and never horses he had ridden against.”

Rawiller was taken off four mounts scheduled for Wednesday evening at Happy Valley.

Hong Kong authorities said other racing jurisdictions would be notified for the purpose of international reciprocation.

“The Club’s handling of this matter demonstrates the expert nature and strength of the Club’s systems for the prevention and detection of breaches of the Rules of Racing, and our unwavering resolve to ensure the highest standards of the integrity in Hong Kong racing,” said Andrew Harding, executive director of racing.
