‘He’s A Warrior’: Navarro Gives War Story ‘Nice And Easy’ Workout

Loooch Racing Stables’ War Story breezed an easy five furlongs in 1:04.80 Sunday morning at Gulfstream Park West in preparation for a scheduled start in the $16-million Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) Jan. 27 at Gulfstream Park.

“It was nice and easy in 1:04. We’ve got four more works,” trainer Jorge Navarro said. “We’ve got to tone him down. We’ve got to keep him happy. He’s a warrior.”

Eduardo Nunez was aboard for the breeze.

On Saturday, Navarro saddled X Y Jet for a victory in the $100,000 Mr. Prospector (G3) at Gulfstream. The 5-year-old gelding, who came off a 13-month layoff to become the only horse to win twice in the 63-year history of the six-furlong sprint, exited his front-running victory in good order, Navarro said.

“He came back very good,” said Navarro, who had saddled the son of Kantharos for a victory in the 2015 Mr. Prospector. “He’ll walk for three days and we’ll go from there.”

The ultimate goal for X Y Jet is the Golden Shaheen (G1) on the Dubai World Cup card March 30.
