Hazel Park Horsemen Find Gates Closed On Ship-In Day

Michigan horsemen were left puzzled Wednesday after Detroit-area track Hazel Park suddenly announced it would not accept horses onto the grounds. According to a report by the Daily Racing Form, Wednesday was to be ship-in day in preparation for the track’s upcoming meeting.

After the announcement by Hartman & Tyner, horsemen who had been lining up at the gate in the morning were subsequently let in.

It’s unclear how long the 42 horses now on the grounds will be permitted to stay, but training has been canceled for Thursday. Hartman & Tyner did not respond to a request from the Form for comment, and did not indicate whether admission would be cut off at some point or why the track initially refused to accept horses.

Timed works are scheduled to be available beginning April 11, with the meet starting May 4.
