Gulfstream: Four-Win Friday Makes A Statement As Pletcher Seeks 15th Consecutive Title

Trainer Todd Pletcher was represented by four winners on Friday’s program at Gulfstream Park, making an early statement in his quest for and unprecedented 15th consecutive Championship Meet title.

The defending 14-time training champ’s big day was capped by Bold Envoy’s dazzling front-running victory in the featured ninth race, a six-furlong optional claiming allowance. Ridden by John Velazquez, the 3-year-old gelded son of Indian Express sprinted six furlongs in 1:09.11 to win by open lengths while making his first start for Pletcher.

Lawson Racing Stables’ Bold Envoy ($6.20), who previously captured his debut and finished a troubled third in an optional claiming allowance, was preceded in the winner’s circle by stablemates Al Khor ($4) in the second, Titochip ($2.80) in the fourth and Tiznow Times Two ($29.40) in the fifth.

Jockey Tyler Gaffalione notched a three-win day, scoring aboard Al Khor, Fast Boat ($4) in the eighth and Furiosa ($7.40) in the 10th.

Racing resumes Saturday with an all-stakes 11-race program, featuring six stakes for 2-year-olds and the five-race $600,000 Clasico Internacional del Caribe. First-race post time is set for 11:50 a.m.
