Gulfstream: Blewitt Does His Namesake Proud In Thursday’s Feature

Repole Stable’s Blewitt, named after Gulfstream Park’s TV host and analyst Jason Blewitt, returned to winning form in Thursday’s Race 9 feature at Gulfstream.

The Todd Pletcher-trained 5-year-old son of Uncle Mo was hustled out of the gate to grab an early lead that he would never relinquish on his way to a five-length victory in the 1 1/16-mile optional claiming allowance, giving jockey Tyler Gaffalione his fifth straight multi-win day..

“Mr. Pletcher said to make sure I asked him a little bit going into the first turn to get position. He broke sharp so I didn’t want to take anything away from him. He got nice and relaxed out front,” Gaffalione said. “He was comfortable with where he was. I just tried to stay out of his way and he got the job done today.”

Repole Stable and Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners’ Moretti, who is also trained by Pletcher, finished second.

Blewitt ($15.60), who finished off-the-board in his first two starts of the year at Gulfstream while sprinting, appreciated the stretch-out around two turns, scoring his fourth victory in 10 starts while running 1 1/16 miles in 1:43.13.

Gaffalione, who also scored aboard Volubile ($8) in Race 8, has won 15 races on the first five programs of the Spring/Summer Meet.

Chris Landeros also doubled on Thursday’s program, scoring aboard Bayou Prospector ($55.80) in Race 5 and Passion Factor ($17.40) in Race 10.
