Great House Tops Tattersalls Online August Sale

The Tattersalls Online August Sale, the second online sale to be run by Europe’s leading bloodstock auctioneers offered a diverse range of bloodstock and attracted buyers from throughout the world.

Great House, a 4-year-old son on the great Galileo, proved to be the star turn selling to Highclere Racing for £175,000 (US$229,242). The Donnacha O’Brien-trained colt stayed on strongly to score over a mile and a half at Limerick on only his second start to date. A progressive colt, he now looks set to continue his career for new connections in Australia.

Akhania, a 7-year-old mare by Dalakhani in foal to Golden Horn, was offered with a colt foal at foot by sire sensation Night of Thunder. She was purchased by bloodstock agent Alex Elliott who saw off a number of bidders to secure the three-in-one package for £155,000 (US$203,034) on behalf of a British-based breeder.

Meaningful Vote, a 3-year-old colt by Pivotal offered by Fozzy Stack’s Thomastown Castle Stables was sold to Asian Bloodstock Services’ Marie Yoshida on behalf of the Hong Kong based Peter K. L. Chu for £135,000 (US$176,836). The 89-rated colt ran out the winner of a Premier Handicap over a mile at Naas in July two starts ago.

Inner Beauty will continue her career in America after being purchased by Kern Thoroughbreds’ Joe Miller for £100,000 (US$130,991) on behalf of Tim Cohen’s Red Baron’s Barn and Rancho Temescal. The 2-year-old daughter of Starspangledbanner was an impressive winner of her maiden before finishing a close fourth in the Group 2 Airlie Stud Stakes.

Commenting on the purchase Joe Miller said;

“The whole Tattersalls Online Sale process went very smoothly and it is a well-constructed easy to use platform. We were delighted to buy Inner Beauty for Tim Cohen who has always done well buying at Tattersalls, most notably with Grade 1 winner River Boyne.”

Mirror Kisses, a winner on her latest start at Pontefract of a 2-year-old maiden for Mick Channon, attracted interest from a number of parties but it was Chelm Scaffold Supplies who came out on top to secure her for £25,000 (US$32,746). She now looks set to take her chance on Sunday in the Listed St Hugh’s Stakes at Newbury.

After the conclusion of the Tattersalls August Online Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony commented;
“This was only the second Tattersalls Online Sale and the feedback has been extremely positive. The international participation was particularly encouraging with three of the five purchases set to continue their racing careers abroad, in Australia, Hong Kong and the USA.”
