Grade 1 Winner Bast Bred To Quality Road

Owner Baoma Corp announced on Thursday that their recently retired multiple Grade 1-winning filly Bast (Uncle Mo – Laffina, by Arch) has been bred to Quality Road, the number-one general sire by Grade 1 wins in 2019, standing at Lane’s End.

Bast retired Feb. 20 after a highly successful 2-year-old campaign with trainer Bob Baffert, and she started 2020 with a win in the Grade 2 Santa Ynez Stakes on Jan. 5 at age three.

At age two, she strung together three Grade 1 wins in the Del Mar Debutante Stakes, the Chandelier Stakes, and the Starlet Stakes. No other top distaff runners of the last decade ran in and won this series of three Grade 1 races as juveniles.

Bast had six career starts with total earnings of $852,200.

“We are thrilled to have three-time Grade 1-winning Bast a highlight in Quality Road’s book for 2020,” said Bill Farish of Lane’s End. “This very talented filly by Uncle Mo should be a terrific match with Quality Road. I can’t wait to see the result of this mating. This is an A++ TrueNicks pairing, having produced many stakes horses including the brilliantly fast Switzerland.”
