Gouverneur Morris Will Make 2020 Debut In Tampa Allowance

Breeders’ Futurity runner-up Gouverneur Morris now has a target for his 2020 debut, reports bloodhorse.com. The 3-year-old son of Constitution is entered in a one mile and 40 yard allowance race Friday at Tampa Bay Downs, but the colt won’t be rushed to make the first Saturday in May.

“We want to have a nice, non-killer race to get him started,” Team Valor International’s Barry Irwin told bloodhorse.com. “He will have one normal, average race and then we’ll go for the gold in a race like the Florida Derby or somewhere else and if we run well we’ll go to the Derby.”

Out of the stakes-placed Unbridled’s Song mare Addison Run, Gouverneur Morris was a $200,000 yearling purchase at the Keeneland September sale. Team Valor paid $600,000 for the colt as a 2-year-old at the Fasig-Tipton Florida select sale, and co-owns with WinStar Farm. Gouverneur Morris won his debut by nine lengths at Saratoga, then ran second to Maxfield in the Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland.
