Good Magic ‘A Little Tired’ After Third-Place Effort In Fountain Of Youth

Champion 2-year-old male last season, Good Magic was a disappointing third in Saturday’s Grade 2 Fountain of Youth, beaten 4 1/2 lengths by longshot Promises Fulfilled.

According to drf.com, trainer Chad Brown is leaning toward sending the son of Curlin to Keeneland‘s Blue Grass Stakes at the beginning of April for his next start. Good Magic’s current total of 34 points on the Road to the Kentucky Derby have him third on the leaderboard, so a similar effort in the Blue Grass would likely keep the colt in the mix for the first Saturday in May.

“The horse came out of the race a little tired,” Brown said. “He’s in good order. He scoped clean. Hopefully he got something out of a race it looks like he needed.

“I’m disappointed he didn’t win, but happy with how he came back. It was a solid-enough effort, and hopefully he’s ready to move forward.”
