Freedom Child, Boys At Tosconova Exported To Korea

The Korean stallion roster continues to expand, with the recent arrival of young sires Freedom Child and Boys at Tosconava.

The pair of graded stakes winners arrived in the country on Feb. 27, per Korea Racing Authority records.

Freedom Child, a 10-year-old son of Malibu Moon, previously stood at Country Life Farm in Maryland. His oldest foals are 5-year-olds of 2020, and his runners are led by four-time stakes winner Parisian Diva and three-time stakes winner Limited View. He was Maryland’s leading freshman sire of 2017.

During his own on-track career, Freedom Child won two of eight starts for earnings of $170,072, highlighted by a victory in the Grade 2 Peter Pan Stakes.

Bred in Kentucky by Spendthrift Farm, Freedom Child is out of the winning Deputy Minister mare Bandstand. Champion Shanghai Bobby is in his extended family, along with Grade 1 winner City Band and Grade 3 winner American Lion.

Boys at Tosconova, a 12-year-old horse by Officer, last stood domestically at Questroyal North in New York. He entered stud in 2013, making his oldest foals 6-year-olds.

The stallion’s best runners to date include Grade 3-placed stakes winner Our Super Nova and stakes winners My Boy Tate and Retonova.

Boys at Tosconova won five of nine starts for earnings of $688,960. He was an Eclipse Award finalist for champion 2-year-old male of 2010 on the strength of a campaign that saw him run second in the G3 Kentucky Juvenile Stakes in his debut start, then go on to win the G1 Hopeful Stakes and finish second in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Churchill Downs. He later turned in a runner-up effort in the G3 Westchester Stakes.

A Kentucky-bred by Hertrich/McCarthy Livestock, Boys at Tosconova is out of the stakes-placed Coronado’s Quest mare Little Bonnet. His second dam is Grade 3 winner Valid Bonnet, with others on the page including Grade 3 winner Full Ransom and Speakerphone, as well as Grade 1-placed Miss Cox’s Hat.
