Former Grade 1-Winning Jockey Kevin Krigger Arrested In Virgin Islands

Multiple graded stakes-winning jockey Kevin Krigger, who last rode in the United States on March 29, 2020, has been arrested in relation to a gun crime in the Virgin Islands, reports The St. Croix Source.

On Feb. 6, Krigger was a passenger in a pickup truck pulled over for allegedly failing to stop at a red light. Police smelled marijuana and searched the vehicle, and police report that an unlicensed handgun was found on the driver, David Armstrong, Sr.

Armstrong was charged with possession of an unlicensed handgun, but it was not clear what charges 38-year-old Krigger might face.

A 38-year-old native of the Virgin Islands, Krigger is best known for winning the 2013 Santa Anita Derby on Goldencents. He piloted the colt to a 17th-place finish in the Kentucky Derby that year, but losses and several injuries had Krigger stepping away from the sport in 2014.

Returning in 2017, Krigger bounced back at Emerald Downs in Auburn, Wash., and earned his 1,000th victory in August of 2019.
