Former Fairplex Park Finding New Life As Home Of ‘Phenomenal’ Soccer Fields

When Fairplex Park ceased its racing operations in 2014, there were several ideas that were discussed as to what to do with the property.

As the Daily Bulletin reports, Fairplex community officials deemed that the location had to be ‘multipurpose', while being compatible with events such as the L.A. County Fair and the annual Fourth of July fireworks show.

Fairplex officials turned the infield of the racetrack into a soccer facility, with fields available to both adult and youth leagues. There are four separate playing fields in what used to be the track's infield.

According to the Bulletin, Fairplex invested about $200,000 in each field. “We converted the infield rough into really a fine tuned playing surface,” said Michelle DeMott, vice president of marketing at Fairplex.

Fairplex soon opened up the fields to youth soccer organizations, and now some professional teams have followed suit. In June, the club soccer group Soltilo FC Los Angeles began practicing on the fields three times a week.

Daniel Fox, who oversees the activities of Soltilo FC Los Angeles club, had high praise for the facility, calling the playing fields “phenomenal”.

“There are very few clubs in Southern California that have access to a facility like this,” Fox said.
