First Mare Pronounced In Foal For Spendthrift Farm’s Bolt d’Oro

Spendthrift Farm‘s Bolt d’Oro, the multiple Grade 1-winning millionaire by Medaglia d’Oro, had the first mare he covered confirmed as being in foal on Monday.

Silent Triumph, a young City Zip mare owned by Baccari Bloodstock, was his first-ever mate when the breeding shed opened on Feb. 10. She’s a half-sister to Mind Control, last year’s Grade 1 Hopeful Stakes winner at Saratoga as a 2-year-old.

Campaigned by Mick and Wendy Ruis, Bolt d’Oro began his career with three emphatic victories as a 2-year-old, including back-to-back Grade 1 wins. After capturing his 6 1/2-furlong debut at Del Mar, he jumped into Grade 1 company to win the seven-furlong Del Mar Futurity, stopping the clock in 1:22.91. In his third start, Bolt d’Oro stretched out around two turns in the G1 FrontRunner Stakes at Santa Anita, dominating his rivals to the tune of a 7 3/4-length victory in 1:43.54 for 1 1/16 miles.

In his 3-year-old debut, Bolt d’Oro won the G2 San Felipe Stakes over McKinzie, running 1 1/16 miles in 1:42.71 at Santa Anita. He would go on to be runner-up to eventual Triple Crown winner Justify in the G1 Santa Anita Derby.

Bolt d’Oro, who retired to Spendthrift with earnings of $1,016,000, is standing his first season in 2019 for a fee of $25,000 S&N and is booked full.
