Final Wyoming EIA Quarantine Released

The following information is from the Equine Disease Communication Center.

The Wyoming Livestock Board has lifted a 60-day quarantine for Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) on 61 equines on 12 premises in eight counties. This massive quarantine was the result of the infection of a single horse with EIA. The horse, which was purchased from an unidentified livestock lot in Weld County, CO, led to state animal health officials in Wyoming and Colorado searching out over 100 horse in multiple states to determine if they were infected.

EIA is a viral disease that has no cure; infected horses must be kept at least 200 ears from other horses for the rest of its life.

The negative test results have allowed the last quarantines to be lifted.
