Ferrer Transported To Hospital As A Precaution After Monmouth Spill

Jockey Jose Ferrer was taken to Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, N.J., for precautionary X-rays after being unseated from his mount, Racinginthestreet, prior to the start of the 11th race Sunday at Monmouth Park.

“I sent him to the hospital for precautionary X-rays because he fell hard,” said Dr. Angelo Chinnici, the track’s medical director.  “He was perfectly lucid but had some aches and pains that I wanted checked out.”

Racinginthestreet was corralled within 10 feet after breaking through the gate by an outrider and went on to start the race with Angelo Arroyo as a late substitute rider.

Ferrer and Paco Lopez are tied atop the Monmouth Park jockey standings with 23 winners apiece.
