Fancy Dress Party Goes Wire-To-Wire In Beaumont

LNJ Foxwoods’ Fancy Dress Party took the lead at the start and doggedly held sway through the wire in Sunday’s G3 Beaumont Stakes at Keeneland. The 3-year-old daughter of Munnings and jockey Luis Saez covered seven furlongs in 1:28.18 on the sloppy main track. Still undefeated through four career starts for trainer Ben Colebrook, Fancy Dress Party earned her first graded win as the third choice at 5-2.

Second choice Mother Mother finished second by a head, while 8-5 favorite Feedback could not do better than third.

“I thought No. 2 (Mother Mother) was the speed,” Saez said. “But (Fancy Dress Party) broke so clean and so well, we stayed there (on the lead) and we took it. She was very comfortable. I felt like I had a lot of horse, and when we got to the stretch, she just kept going.”

Fancy Dress Party led the field of five through a first quarter-mile in :22.57 and was joined on the turn by Feedback to her outside through a half-mile in :45.55.

Mother Mother joined the fray in the stretch from the inside and passed Feedback but never could get by the winner.

Fancy Dress Party returned $7.40, $3.20 and $2.20. Mother Mother, ridden by Florent Geroux, returned $3.20 and $2.20 with Feedback finishing another 1¼ lengths back in third and returning $2.20 to show under Irad Ortiz Jr.

It was another 10¼ lengths back to Another Time in fourth with Iva trailing the field.

“I thought ‘well she’s doing it’ and looks to be running them off their feet,” Colebrook added. “It wasn’t the game plan, but credit to (jockey) Luis (Saez) for going with Plan B. I think if he takes her back, we don’t win the race. It was an amazing ride.”

Bred in Kentucky by Douglas S. Arnold, Fancy Dress Party was a $280,000 yearling at the Keeneland September sale. She broke her maiden at Keeneland last fall, then won an allowance race at Churchill before wintering in south Florida. In the Glitter Woman Stakes, Fancy Dress Party dominated by 5 3/4 lengths. With four wins from as many starts, the filly boasts earnings of over $220,000.
