Fabre To Bring Dual Assault Against Enable In Breeders’ Cup Turf

Including last year’s Breeders’ Cup Turf champion Talismanic, trainer Andre Fabre is planning a two-pronged assault against European star Enable in next Saturday’s challenge at Churchill Downs, according to attheraces.com. Talismanic was an uninterested 13th last out in the Arc, but his other Turf entrant, Waldgeist, won the Group 1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud this year. Most recently, Waldgeist finished fourth behind Enable after a tough draw in the Arc de Triomphe.

“Of course, Enable is the one to beat, but they are both in good shape,” said Fabre. “Talismanic likes those short bends. I think I was probably a bit soft with him in the training, and he didn’t get into the Arc. He seems to be OK now. The draw (13) didn’t help Waldgeist, but it’s like that in Longchamp. He could have been third with a better draw.”

Fabre has saddled the winners of five Breeders’ Cup races, three of which captured the Turf. Two of those, In the Wings in 1990 and Shirocco in 2005, also finished fourth in the Arc de Triomphe before finding success on American soil.
