Evangeline Training Center Fined $300,000 For Wastewater Pollution

Evangeline Enterprises LLC, the operator of a racehorse training center in Carencro, La., has agreed to pay a $300,000 fine in order to settle Clean Water Act claims filed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ), according to klfy.com.

The claims allege that the training center was illegally discharging wastewater contaminated with horse manure, urine and other biological materials, which was polluting the Vermilion River and Francois Coulee tributary.

The settlement requires that Evangeline construct a waste retention control structure that will hold the wastewater until it can be routed for treatment. The facility must also comply with best waste management practices and submit an application for a Louisiana National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit. Should the facility close down, the settlement contains alternative measures to prevent additional pollution.
