Estilo Talentoso Takes Escena Stakes, Helps Zayas To Four-Win Day At Gulfstream

Estilo Talentoso benefited from a well-judged front-running trip under leading rider Edgard Zayas to capture Sunday’s $60,000 Escena Stakes by a length at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla.

The runner-up in the Azalea Stakes two starts back, the 3-year-old daughter of Maclean’s Music broke through with her first stakes victory in the mile overnight stakes for fillies and mares.

Owned and trained by Juan Arriagada, Estilo Talentoso has never been worse than third in nine career starts, including six second-place finishes.

Zayas took the initiative right from the start by sending the Kentucky-bred filly to the lead over six rivals. The Spring/Summer Meet’s leading rider was afforded the luxury of letting Estilo Talentoso relax on the lead along the backstretch, which allowed pacesetter to conserve her energy to turn back a strong challenge from Crumb Bun and jockey Cristian Torres. Crumb Bun pulled alongside the pacesetter on the turn into the stretch but weakened late to finish second. Bella Ciao rallied late for third.

Along with his victory in the Escena, Zayas had three other winners on the afternoon. He also won the first aboard Aerodynamic ($4) the third on Act Like Artie ($3.20) and the 10th with Midtown Rose ($3.80)

Estilo Talentoso ($8.80) ran a mile in 1:35.68.

NOTES: Trainer Jena Antonucci saddled back-to-back winners on Sunday’s program. Antonucci saddled Bella Inizio Farm’s Purecrazidude ($29.60) to victory in the eighth race and Baciagaloop Stable’s Earth ($14.60) to victory in the ninth race…Jockey Samy Camacho had a three-win day. Camacho won aboard both Antonucci horses and added a victory in the 11th on Miss Loretta ($8.40).
