Entirely Survives ‘Eventful’ Trip In Florida Sire Stakes Sharp Susan

Augustin Stable’s Entirely survived a rough trip and a foul claim to prevail in the $100,000 Sharp Susan on the undercard of Saturday’s 2018 FTBOA Florida Sire Stakes program at Gulfstream Park.

The 2-year-old daughter of Point of Entry was checked in traffic by jockey Emisael Jaramillo for the third time leaving the backstretch before making a sweeping five-wide move on the turn to take the lead in the stretch. The Jonathan Thomas trained drifted slightly nearly the finish while holding off a late bid by A Bit Special by a neck. Romero Ramsey Maragh, who rode the runner-up, claimed foul on the winner to no avail.

“It was eventful from start of finish. We had like four different trips by the time we got to the half-mile pole. Everybody was ping-ponging off each other. I’m just happy we came out on top,” Thomas said. “She’s a nice filly. I thought she was traveling well in spots. Whenever she got into a rhythm, she got knocked off rhythm, so it’s a credit to her that she got the job done.”

George Strawbridge Jr.’s homebred filly ran 7 ½ furlongs over a firm turf course in 1:31.39.

“It was important to me to get a stakes win for this filly. These owners are some of the greatest people the sport has,” Thomas said. “This is meaningful for me to win a stake for them.”

A Bit Special, who closed from last in the field of nine, finished a length ahead of third-place finisher Dangerous Curves, the 5-2 second choice who made a rail stretch bid under Leonel Reyes.

Entirely won at first asking in a June 1 maiden race at Gulfstream Park, where she rallied from far back to win the five-furlong turf race by 3 ¾ lengths. She subsequently joined Thomas’ contingent at Saratoga before returning to action with a fourth-place finish over Woodbine’s synthetic surface in the July 7 My Dear Stakes, in which two of the three horses that finished ahead of her were next-out winners.

The $75,000 Our Dear Peggy on the undercard of the FSS finals program Sept. 29 is on Thomas’ radar for Entirely.

“The logical thing would be to wait and come back in four weeks for the mile race,” he said. “We’ll just let her regroup and see.”
