Enable ‘Very Pleased With Herself’ After Turf Triumph; No Future Plans Decided

No plans have been decided for the future of Breeders’ Cup Turf superstar Enable, the first horse to win the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and the Turf in the same season (besting males in both races). Her hard-fought half-length victory over the testing ground earned her a Beyer figure of 114, according to drf.com. The 4-year-old daughter of Nathaniel will leave Churchill Downs for a return to her home base in England on Monday.

“She ate up, she’s very pleased with herself and she’s in good form I’m delighted to say,” said Lord Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager for Prince Khalid Abdullah’s Juddmonte Farm. “She’ll go back to [trainer John Gosden’s] yard and then we will sort of cogitate a few things see how she is, see how she does.”

In the post-race interview on NBC, both Gosden and jockey Frankie Dettori seemed enthusiastic about the prospect of running Enable as a 5-year-old. Grimthorpe indicated that there was no timetable for the Prince to make his decision about her future, though she is definitely finished for the 2018 racing season.
