Enable Trying For Arc Repeat; Breeders’ Cup May Be On The Horizon For Star Filly

Juddmonte’s Enable is aiming to win back-to-back runnings of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe this weekend, but the 4-year-old daughter of Nathaniel will enter this year’s contest off just one prep race, reports nytimes.com. An injury in May of this year kept Enable out of the starting gate until Sept. 8, though she and jockey Frankie Dettori showed good form to be easy winners in that day’s G3 September Stakes at Kempton.

“It was so great to get her back on track,” said Lord Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager for Juddmonte. “Obviously, it had been a frustrating summer, but to see her come back, and the style she came back in, was very heartening. She loves it, and it showed in every way.”

Should Enable run well in the Arc, connections would consider sending her across the Atlantic for the Breeders’ Cup Turf. Her trainer, John Gosden, has twice finished second in the Turf, with The Fugue in 2013 and Golden Horn in 2015.

“If Enable runs well and is in good order after the Arc, strong consideration would be given to the Breeders’ Cup Turf,” Gosden told racingpost.com. “She began her season only in September, so it makes sense to take a fresh horse out there if she’s in good shape.”
