Empire 6 Hit For $123,545 At Aqueduct; $79,671 Late Pick 5 Carries Over To Saturday

A single-ticket payout of the Empire 6 was hit on Friday at Aqueduct Racetrack, returning $123,545.80 for the jackpot-style wager at the Ozone Park, N.Y., track. The 20-cent minimum wager requires bettors to select the first-place finisher of the card’s final six races.

Offered on live race days, the carryover jackpot returns 100 percent of the net pool, plus the jackpot carryover when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 75 percent of that day’s net pool is distributed to those who selected the first-place finisher in the greatest number of races, with the remainder added into the jackpot and carried to the next day’s Empire 6 pool.

Left Leaning Lucy, a second-time starter trained by David Donk, triggered the single-ticket jackpot by winning the eighth race finale. Off at 5-1, she returned $12 on a $2 win wager.

Bad Guy, a New York-bred trained by Rudy Rodriguez, started the sequence with a three-length victory in Race 3, returning $11.80. Quasar, the favorite trained by Robert Ribaudo, captured Race 5, a six-furlong sprint for maidens, returned $5.20.

The day’s biggest-priced winner came when Titan’s Will, off at 23-1, was a $49.40 winner for conditioner Orlando Noda in Race 5, earning his second consecutive win.

Mills, a 10-year-old, won his first race in 25 starts and first since 2017, paying $11 for capturing Race 6. The David Cannizzo trainee outlasted Business Cycle by a half length for the victory.  Ilchester Cheetah, trained by Jeremiah O’Dwyer, followed with her fourth win in seven starts in Race 7, returning $14.20.

In addition, the Late Pick 5 resulted in a carryover of $79,671 into Saturday’s card.

The Empire 6 returns with live racing on Saturday, February 22. The wager will begin in Race 5 a second-level claiming race for 4-year-olds and upward. The Late Pick 5 will begin in Race 6. First post is 1:20 p.m.

A second mandatory payout of the Empire 6 wager will be offered on Sunday, February 23 at Aqueduct.
