El Areeb Progressing Well After Surgery To Remove Knee Chip

El Areeb, winner of both the G3 Withers and G3 Jerome Stakes earlier this year, has been sent to a farm in Maryland to continue his rehabilitation from surgery to remove a knee chip.

Trainer Cal Lynch told the Daily Racing Form that the son of Exchange Rate recently was sent to Krissy Close's farm outside Monkton, Maryland. He will stay there until June, then he will be sent to trainer Bruce Jackson at Fair Hill, where he will use an Aqua-tred as part of his therapy.

El Areeb has been sidelined since injuring his right knee during a workout March 30. Dr. Dean Richardson at the New Bolton Center performed surgery to remove the knee chip.

“The chip was very mild, and the surgery went well,” Lynch said. “He should come back from this just fine.”

Lynch told the Form that he expects El Areeb to return to his barn in September.
