Edisa Rallies Down The Center To Win Jockey Club Oaks

The Aga Khan’s homebred Edisa closed with a rush to win Saturday’s $750,000 Jockey Club Oaks Invitational at Belmont Park, out-finishing Wonderment by three-quarters of a length on the wire. The French-based daughter of Kitten’s Joy, ridden by Flavien Prat for trainer Alain de Royer-Dupre, covered 1 3/8 miles over the “good” turf in 2:17.02.

Near the rear of the field after breaking a bit slowly, Edisa was content to bide her time behind the leaders around the Belmont oval. Prat angled her out heading toward the top of the stretch, and the filly dug in gamely to prevail by three-quarters of a length over Wonderment. 7 finished third, while 2 was fourth.

Bred in Kentucky by her owner, Edisa is out of the Rock of Gibraltar mare Ebiyza. The Oaks is her first stakes victory from 7 starts, and boosts her overall earnings to over $500,000.
