Derby Trio Leave Pletcher Smiling After Friday Breezes At Palm Beach

Undergoing what will likely be their final breezes before shipping to Kentucky, three of trainer Todd Pletcher’s contenders for the first Saturday in May left their trainer pleased on Friday morning. According to drf.com, the trio worked at Palm Beach Downs just after dawn.

Florida Derby winner Audible was up first, going in company with Patch to complete five-eighths in 1:01.58. Wood Memorial winner Vino Rosso breezed next, out-finishing the older Outplay over four furlongs in 49.77 seconds. Finally, Louisiana Derby winner Noble Indy finished his breeze well clear of Road to Damascus, timed for six furlongs in 1:15.16.

“That’s two works in a row he did exactly what we asked him to do,” Pletcher said of Audible, not always the sharpest of work horses. “He seemed into the bridle the whole way, gave us a good, solid five-eighths with a nice gallop-out. He’s always been a very laid-back horse, and that’s part of what makes him good. He’s easy on himself and so relaxed about everything.”
