Derby Third Audible Returns In Cherokee Run On Breeders’ Cup Undercard

China Horse Club, Head of Plains Partners, Starlight Racing and WinStar Farm‘s multiple graded stakes winner Audible returns to competition following a six-month layoff to face 11 rivals in Saturday’s first running of the $200,000 Cherokee Run at Churchill Downs.

The seven furlong Cherokee Run for 3-year-olds is carded as Race 2 with a scheduled post time of 11:15 a.m. (all times Eastern). The first race on Saturday is 10:45 a.m. and the first of nine Breeders’ Cup races gets underway at noon.

Audible, who finished third behind Justify and Good Magic in the Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve (GI), was one of the top 3-year-old contenders following his 5 ½-length win in the Feb. 3 Holy Bull (GII) and three-length score in the Florida Derby (GI) at Gulfstream Park.

Trained by Todd Pletcher, Audible will be ridden by Javier Castellano and break from post position 3.

Among Audible’s challengers in the Cherokee Run is Woody Stephens (GII) winner Still Having Fun for owners Gary Barber, Wachtel Stable and Terp Racing LLC and trainer Timothy Keefe.

The Maryland-bred by Old Fashioned has four victories through 10 starts with earnings of $451,203.

Jockey Jose Ortiz picks up the call on Still Having Fun and will break from post 11.

Also entered in the Cherokee Run is Albaugh Family Stable and Brereton Jones’ Ellis Park Juvenile winner Dak Attack for Churchill Downs’ all-time leading trainer Dale Romans.

The 3-year-old colt by Ghostzapper originally targeted and pre-entered in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (GI) but Romans opted the colt in the Cherokee Run instead.

Jockey Robby Albarado has the call on Dak Attack and will break from post 9.

The Cherokee Run is named after trainer Frank Alexander’s 1994 Breeders’ Cup Sprint (GI) winner who sported a stout 28-13-5-5 record with $1,531,818 in earnings.

The Cherokee Run field from the rail out (with jockey and trainer): Cool Bobby (Mario Gutierrez, Peter Eurton); Honorable Treasure (Brian Hernandez Jr., Kenny McPeek); Audible (Castellano, Pletcher); Smart Remark (Joel Rosario, Victoria Oliver); Cowboy Creed (Channing Hill, Nevada Litfin); Mr Freeze (Tyler Gaffalione, Romans); Principe Guilherme (Ricardo Santana Jr., Steve Asmussen); Kowboy Karma (Gabriel Saez, Larry Jones); Dak Attack (Albarado, Romans); Aveenu Malcainu (Luis Saez, Jeremiah Englehart); Still Having Fun (Ortiz, Keefe); Super Sol (Joe Talamo, Bob Baffert).

Corms Racing Stable and R. A. Hill Stable’s Beldame Invitational (GI) runner-up Divine Miss Grey heads a competitive field of eight in Saturday’s 33rd running of the $200,000 Chilukki Stakes at Churchill Downs.

Carded as the 12th and finale on Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup program, the one-mile Chilukki has a post time of 6:22 p.m. (all times Eastern).

Divine Miss Grey, a 4-year-old daughter of Divine Park, invades Kentucky from trainer Danny Gargan’s east coast base at Belmont Park. The chestnut filly scored an impressive 7 ¾-length win two starts ago in the Dr. James Penny Memorial Stakes on Sept. 8 at Parx.

Jockey Manny Franco has the ride on Divine Miss Grey who drew post position 6.

Chief among Divine Miss Grey’s rivals in the Chilukki is California shipper Shenandoah Queen, who recently finished third in the Zenyatta Stakes behind Vale Dori and La Force at Santa Anita Park.

Owned by Hronis Racing and trained by John Sadler, Shenandoah Queen hopes to overcome her sixth-place finish in last year’s Chilukki, her only start outside of California since she’s been trained by Sadler.

Tyler Baze has the call on the 6-year-old Henny Hughes mare who breaks from post 3.

Also entered in the Chilukki is Town and Country Racing’s Summer Colony Stakes winner Moonlit Garden for Keeneland-based trainer Chris Davis.

A three-time winner from 16 starts, Moonlit Garden scored a front running victory in the Summer Colony by 1 ½ lengths under jockey Jose Ortiz.

Moonlit Garden will once again be ridden by Ortiz who drew the rail.

The complete field for the Chilukki from the rail out (with jockey and trainer): Moonlit Garden (Ortiz, Davis); Awestruck (Brian Hernandez Jr., Rusty Arnold); Shenandoah Queen (Baze, Sadler); Bixby Lou (Declan Cannon, Tracey Glover); Student Body (Sophie Doyle, Davis); Divine Miss Grey (Franco, Gargan); Berned (Joe Bravo, Graham Motion); Pricedtoperfection (Joel Rosario, James Cassidy).
