Daring Duchess Looks For Redemption, One Of Three Maker Entries In Grade 3 Dowager

Ken and Sarah Ramsey’s multiple graded stakes-placed Daring Duchess heads a field of 10 entered Thursday for Sunday’s 27th running of the $125,000 Rood & Riddle Dowager (G3) for fillies and mares going 1½ miles on the grass.

The Rood & Riddle Dowager will go as the eighth race on Sunday’s nine-race program with a 4:57 p.m. ET post time. First post time Sunday is 1:05 p.m.

Trained by Mike Maker, Daring Duchess won the Flaming Page at Woodbine in August in her most recent start at the Rood & Riddle Dowager distance. Seventh in this race last year, Daring Duchess will be ridden Sunday by Jose Ortiz and break from post position five.

Maker has two other entrants in the race: Rahway and Shezaprado who are both owned by Out Of This World Racing. Corey Lanerie will ride Rahway from post position nine, and Gabriel Saez has the call on Shezaprado from post position four.

The field for the Rood & Riddle Dowager, with riders and weights from the inside, is: Viva Vegas (Tyler Gaffalione, 121 pounds), English Affair (Brian Hernandez Jr., 121), Savannah Belle (Ricardo Santana Jr., 121), Shezaprado (Saez, 121), Daring Duchess (Ortiz, 121), Amboseli (Mike Smith, 121), BeachFlower (Chris Landeros, 121), Res Ipsa (Julien Leparoux, 121), Rahway (Lanerie, 118) and Vexatious (Florent Geroux, 121).
