Darby Dan Farm Expands Copper Bullet’s Book Under Unique Program

Darby Dan Farm has decided, after much deliberation, to accept an additional 20 mares into Copper Bullet‘s book this season.

As was announced earlier this year, owner Ron Winchell has teamed with Equine Analysis Systems (Dr. David Lambert), and together, they have established qualifications for mares to be considered for Copper Bullet. If the mares meet all the requirements, the mare owner will receive a complimentary season to Copper Bullet and will be paid $5,000 when the mare is pronounced in foal at 45 days.

The idea to add to his first book was not created because of the current pandemic, but the stallion’s connections did feel it was a timely option considering the circumstances. The course of action was discussed tirelessly so as not to appear opportunistic in a global crisis. However, the team believes this opportunity will be a great benefit to breeders and will provide $100,000 to their pockets.

The first qualification is based on age, race record, family, and production. If mares pass the first filter, a pedigree and conformation photo will be sent to Dr. Lambert’s team for analysis. The photo will then be uploaded into Equine Analysis Systems’ “FotoSelect” program where an algorithm program will take all the biomechanical measurements of the mare to determine if she matches well with Copper Bullet.

A graded stakes-winning juvenile, having won the Grade 2 Saratoga Special Stakes in 2017, Copper Bullet is a son of perennial leading sire More Than Ready, out of the winning Unbridled’s Song mare Allegory, from a family that includes French highweights Loup Sauvage and Loup Solitaire.
