Daddy Long Legs Moves To Taylor Made Stallions For 2019

Multiple graded stakes-winning millionaire Daddy Long Legs, a son of Scat Daddy, has been purchased by Taylor Made Stallions, Phoenix Thoroughbreds, and KatieRich Farms and will stand the upcoming breeding season at Taylor Made for $10,000 S&N after relocating from Haras Cordillera in Chile.

Daddy Long Legs is already following in his influential sire’s footsteps. Scat Daddy was leading sire in Chile from 2013-2016, siring 10 Chilean champions and two Chilean horses of the year. Daddy Long Legs topped all first-crop sires in Chile with five stakes winners and is represented by 10 stakes horses from his first-crop of Chilean runners, including Group 1-winning 2-year-old champion colt Fallen From Heaven, a G1 winner on dirt and a G2 winner on turf, and G3-winning 2-year-old filly Atomicka.

“We are very excited to have a G1-producing son of Scat Daddy who himself won a G2 as a 2-year-old at Newmarket for Coolmore,” said Duncan Taylor. “To have a son of Scat Daddy, one that was recently crowned champion first-crop sire in Chile, just like his father, makes it that much more special.

“Daddy Long Legs sired a G1 stakes winner on the dirt and champion 2-year-old colt Fallen From Heaven in his first crop and has also produced graded stakes winners on the turf as well. He’s a big, good-looking horse, and along with his ability to sire both top-level dirt and turf horses should be a great fit for the worldwide marketplace. Both Daddy Long Legs and No Nay Never (by Scat Daddy) are off to great starts at stud, as both have sired G1 winners in their first crop, and we look forward to providing breeders here a direct source to one of the most influential stallions we have seen in some time.”

Scat Daddy, a multiple G1 winner who died in 2015, continues to make his mark around the world. He is the sire of 107 stakes winners in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres and 68 graded stakes winners worldwide, including undefeated 2018 Triple Crown winner Justify and 2017 G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf and 2018 G2 U.A.E. Derby winner Mendelssohn. Recent top runners also include the globetrotting G1 winner Lady Aurelia, winner of the King’s Stand Stakes at Ascot; Dacita (CHI), multiple G1 winner in her native Chile and in North America; and multiple G1 winner Caravaggio.

North America’s leading freshman sire in 2011, Scat Daddy became the first sire in 95 years to have four starters in one Kentucky Derby when Justify, Mendelssohn, Flameaway and Combatant started in this year’s Derby. In 2015, Scat Daddy broke the North American record for the number of juvenile stakes winners in a season with nine, eclipsing the previous record of eight that had been set by his great-grandsire, Storm Cat, in 2002.

Campaigned by Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith, and Mr. and Mrs. John Magnier and originally trained by Aidan O’Brien, Daddy Long Legs won his debut at two before capturing the prestigious G2 Royal Lodge Stakes by 3 ¼ lengths at Newmarket. As a 3-year-old, he scored his biggest victory in the $2-million G2 UAE Derby (G2) over the main track at Meydan, earning a berth into the Kentucky Derby0 where his chances were compromised by drawing the rail.

Produced from the multiple stakes-winning Meadowlake mare Dreamy Maiden, Daddy Long Legs was bred in Kentucky by Woodford Thoroughbreds and he retired with career earnings of $1,348,231.
